When you’re tasked with feeding a group of hungry students on a tight budget, you might feel like you’ve been asked to find a needle in a haystack. But don’t worry, after almost three decades, the Forum team has rounded up a few great options for students and we are happy to share the tricks and tips we’ve learned. Check out some of these budget-friendly options:
1. College Campus Cafeterias
Most college campuses have cafeterias designed to cater to large groups of students, and they can be a fantastic option for student groups with a wide variety of cuisines and options to cater to dietary restrictions. To add to the appeal, getting onto a college campus is a great way to energize and motivate your group for the future and see potential options for the future!
2. Food Courts: Variety on a Budget
Food courts aren’t just for malls anymore! Of course, any mall food court is still a great option to feed student groups, but food halls have been on the rise from coast to coast! These eateries offer a trendy but affordable way to feed your group with a variety of quick-service spots. Be sure to ask us about Meal Voucher options as well so you can rest assured your students all eat!
3. Pizza: The Tried and True for Groups
The reigning champion of group meals, and for good reason! Pizza is cheap, filling, and popular, all of which make it perfect for student groups. Many hotels will allow pizza delivery or consumption in breakfast spaces, so long as your group cleans up (be sure to ask your travel coordinator or check with your property). If you have chaperones willing to pick up, Costco and Sam’s Club are absolute winners for feeding student groups (and offer options outside of pizza, too)!
4. Boxed Meal Delivery
Not a fan of pizza? You might be surprised how many delivery options exist outside of pizza for student groups! Since the rise of food delivery services, it’s no surprise that establishments have mastered the grab and go portion of business. Whether it’s Sandwiches, BBQ, Mexican, or Pasta, there are several meal options available to be delivered to a location of your choosing! Enjoy dinner on the beach, at your hotel, or in a picnic area. Just be prepared to clean up and check with your travel provider first for any restrictions.
5. Theme Park Meal Vouchers
Lastly, theme park meal vouchers are a great way to ensure your students are eating during their visit without skyrocketing trip costs. Most theme parks offer Meal Deals for $20-25 per person, and some may even be purchased for in any dollar amount for your students. They typically can be used at most dining locations throughout the park and include an entree, beverage, and side. Ask our team for specifics on vouchers for the park of your choice.
As always, the trick to any successful student trip is to plan ahead. Set your budget and let your travel coordinator know what it is. We’ll work with you to find the dining and activity options that work to make your trip a success! Remember that tour operators often have preferred rates with vendors, so don’t be afraid to request a quote that includes meals so you can compare and find what works best for your students!
